Capital Campaign

Student enrollment in the Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony has grown from barely 50 students in 2010 to over 250 students in 2015—that’s a growth of 400% in five years!  What began as four orchestras in Orlando alone has grown into a comprehensive orchestral system of eight orchestras in Orlando and Lake County and three MAYS At Your School programs that provide in-class instruction to students who would otherwise not have the opportunity.

While the tremendous growth of the MAYS speaks volumes about the success of the educational approach championed by Mr. Jonathan May, as well as Mrs. May, and Mr. Miller, such great success can oftentimes outpace the orchestra’s ability to adjust.  The orchestra often has relied on borrowing professional music stands and concert percussion, which while useful, limits the orchestra’s ability to plan more ambitious concerts or take the orchestra on tour.  But, as Mr. May would always say, “You must…adjust.

In adjusting to the MAYS’ growing needs, The Jonathan May Foundation’s Make a Stand for the MAYS Capital Campaign will raise $10,000 to help secure the purchase of professional music stands, concert percussion instruments, and sheet music for the MAYS.  With your help, we will meet our campaign goals and help the MAYS make a stand.
